If you’re always busy, like most women these days you know it can be quite difficult to juggle everything in your life. One thing that probably often gets put on the back burner is quality time with your husband or partner! Trying to organise a date night can be a challenge!
For me it does just seem to be the easiest thing to let go of when you have a demanding job AND children AND you’re trying to run a household! But having said that, spending time with your partner IS very important for your relationship and should not be put on the back burner!
In my case, my husband and I are happily divorced from previous spouses. Lucky for us, we actually get some child free time when the kids are on the ‘dark side’! Read on to find out my top ideas for a date WITHOUT eating!
DATE NIGHT IDEAS
The problem we run into is that a lot of our date nights are date breakfasts, date lunches, date dinners! What’s the problem I hear you ask? Well, if you’re prone to overeating, like I am it can make it a little challenging trying to stick to a healthy calorie intake!!
So if you’re anything like my husband and I, our date night can turn into a food fest instead of a ‘love’ fest. Here are a few ideas that might inspire love and not sabotage your weight loss/health goals! And if you’re a singleton, all these ideas can be done with a friend or family member or check out my post on things to do instead of eat here.
BROWSE A BOOKSHOP
There has to be something for everyone at a bookshop. When my husband and I have walked into one, we always come out with at least one book each and can spend at least an hour in there if not more. We’d probably stay longer except we’d probably actually finish reading a book and get some funny looks from the girl behind the counter. It’s probably also cheaper than the 3 course meals and wine we like to spend money on. This a great no calorie date night for sure!
CHECK OUT LOCAL FARMERS MARKETS
I love getting up early, having a healthy breakfast at home and then going off to a market to check out what’s on offer. Often we have a coffee and enjoy the atmosphere of the market. We might also actually buy some fresh organic produce we can’t find in the supermarket! With this sort of date night (day) you can clock up some steps on your pedometers, spend quality time together and don’t overeat!
DUST OFF THE PUSH BIKES!
The weather is gradually getting better so there is no excuses in spending a date night outdoors. We sometimes just plonk the bikes in the back of the car and drive to a gorgeous area for a nice ride. There are bike tracks everywhere if you look for them. Even going to your local beach is a great idea. No food involved, getting exercise and enjoying each other’s company, all at the same time!
PLAY A GAME OF SQUASH! (or any other sport)
I have to admit, we are not very sporty people but I absolutely just LOVE playing squash with my husband. It’s hilarious! I think I laugh more than I actually hit the ball, because I keep missing the ball! Exercise, check. Time with husband, check. No calories to consume, check! Getting sporty on a date night might not be everyone’s go to strategy but give it a go. You might be pleasantly surprised on how much you enjoy it!
COUPLES THAT COOK TOGETHER
We both work a lot and have 6 kids between us. We also funnily enough find the time to plonk ourselves on the couch and watch meaningless tv! So I have found something more productive to do instead. Bake bread!
I have made the executive decision in the last few weeks that the whole family is going wheat free! This means no store-bought bread!! Arghhh! One night every week my husband and I get into the kitchen and bake a few batches of our own ‘bread’ using non wheat flours. We also make a batch of ‘cereal’ and try out new recipes. Now this does involve food but we do this after we’ve had dinner. In theory we should not be hungry and shouldn’t be too tempted to eat. Even if we sample some of the food we’ve just made, we know it’s not necessarily low-calorie but it is unprocessed and healthy! Its great bonding for us as we’re doing something for the whole family’s health. I always appreciate him getting into the trenches (aka kitchen) too!
There you have it folks. My top 5 ideas on spending time with your partner that doesn’t sabotage your healthy eating and can get in some exercise as well as great quality time! If you’re looking for even more inspiration, you can check this site out I found that can help.
