It’s all well and good to go on about how a low carb diet is all the rage but how do you know where to start?  If you’re used to eating bread with every meal or pasta, rice and potato at every dinner, you might get a little stumped on how exactly are you supposed to cut those carbs and get yourself on a low carb diet! Read on to find out what a day on a low carb diet looks like!

BREAKFAST

I don’t have to tell you that breakfast is the most important meal of the day! I’m sure EVERYONE now knows this.  Most people though probably run out the door with just a coffee or scoff down some toast or cereal.  Or do you go to drive through junk food breakfast?  It goes without saying that most of us a pushed for time and cooking a  fancy breakfast is out of the question!  An egg on toast is soooo easy. I tend to scramble mine and cook it in the microwave. It only takes 1 minute to cook! I’ve put the kettle on for coffee, one slice of bread in the toaster and voilà!

 

I do admit the above pic looks pretty fancy but I doubt it takes longer than my scrambled egg! Slice a tomato and capsicum for extra flavour and a way you go!

MORNING SNACK

Need I say more?  Almonds make a FABULOUS snack at morning or afternoon tea time!  As long as you don’t devour a whole bag full.  I stick to 20 (yes, I count them out).  This equals about 100 calories which is just right for a quick snack between breakfast and lunch!

LUNCH

I love fish!  Now it doesn’t mean you fry up little fish like the above pic but  they are yummy!  Normally on an average day I would have a tin of salmon with salad. I just love it. Its is so healthy, fresh and just perfect for a low carb diet!  I take my salad in a plastic container, my little bottle of salad dressing and my tin of salmon (or tuna) to work and it is soooo easy!

AFTERNOON SNACK

Who doesn’t love cheese!  Just cut yourself a small piece and savour it!  I often will have a small piece with a slice of salami! Just yummy!  You’ll be surprised how satisfying it will be!  I make sure to drink plenty of water and have a nice cup of coffee too.

DINNER

Dinner is very simple too.  If you cook yourself a 100g piece of meat, whether it be a hamburger patty, steak or chicken and just add your favourite vegetables or salad, you’re set!  Most meals you already have you might find you can just change a little.  For example, skip the rice or potato for extra veggies! Who said a low carb diet is bland and boring!

EVENING SNACK

 

There is no problem with having a snack at night! Believe me! As long as you stick to healthy protein like the earlier snack suggestions, you can’t go wrong! If I have dinner around 6pm then at around 9pm I will have a snack.  I will either have another 20 almonds or a slice of ham.  I also usually make a batch of meatballs every week and keep it in the fridge for such snack times!  I love my meatballs with a tiny dollop of tzatziki sauce!

    1. I don’t think almonds are that cheap here either but I’d be lost without them
